Lori's Birthday

Yesterday, January 24 was Lori's 42nd birthday. We had a small get together here at my house for her. A good time was had by all, but I don't think any event ever comes off smoothly. Home made ice cream sounded like a good thing to go with her birthday cake, so I started out early getting everything ready. My recipe was for a gallon of ice cream and not realizing that I was using a 1 1/2 gallon freezer, I filled up the container and started freezing away. I had put the freezer outside to prevent salty ice from going in the sink and checked on it regularly. Once I came in to check on something in the oven and sorta forgot the freezer. I ran out to check, it had cut off and the motor was smoking. I'm pretty sure I ruined the motor, but we did have ice cream..........more like pleasantly flavored iced milk since I added extra to it. This prevented no one from eating it tho and some even took a container home with them. Lori got cards from everyone that had scratch offs in them and she came out , I think, about $35.00 ahead. Carli bro't her "friend" from Tulia (he's such a nice boy, and so polite) and Conor came in for the festivities. Lana, Lynsi, Clay, Linda, Kara, Lori , Conor, Calor, Carli, Don and I were all the family that got to come. Silly me, I took some pictures with my new camera and put them on my computer, but they didn't go to "my pictures" and now I can't find them. So we will not have a picture for this post. This will in NO way surprise my kids. But, alas, I do the best I can and I WILL learn.

Babies, and why I love them

The time I spend with my grandkids is a blessing that cannot be explained. I just wish every grandmother could enjoy their grands as often as I do. Granted, I am a constance source of embarassment to the teenagers and a great lot of fun to the younger ones. When you are a grand parent, you can be silly, dance, sing and not worry about what people think. I laugh now at the things they do that got my kids in trouble for doing the same things. I loved babies when I was a teenager and always had to hold one when I saw them. My friends tho't I was crazy............I was........about babies. In my 52 years, I have rocked a million miles with babies in my arms. Still love to do that, but they are all too big. I will be so thrilled to get to rock Lacy's baby in March.I rocked Lana until she got so big I couldn't get out of the rocker with her. If someone asked me what the sweetest thing in the world was, I would say a baby's breath on my neck when I hold them on my shoulder, I would say their soft little ,precious hands...........there are too many to mention. Some day I may move to a larger town and apply at a hospital to be a cuddler. The small babies always love you no matter how you look, how old you are.......and even listen to you sing.

I pray that my children and grands will not remember me for the material things I provided but for the feeling that they are cherished.

Another Christmas, Another Year

Another Christmas come and gone. The years fly by when you're getting older. Seems like Christmas comes every other month.

We had a marvelous holiday. Lori had a bad wreck on December 20, but praise the Lord, survived with a few compressed vertebre and cracked tail bone..........and soreness unimaginable. She flipped end over end three times and thank goodness for seatbelts, airbags and GUARDIAN ANGELS. This made our Christmas much more special knowing she is Ok. All my kids and grands were here at the house and we ate, played games, ate, opened gifts, ate, played games and then ate. It was the most enjoyable Christmas ever. Seems as if it just keeps getting sweeter each year.

My kids and grands are so great. They gave me a nikon camera that I had wanted for so long. It was so unexpected and I LOVE it. I will be putting some of my handi-work (LOL) on here before long. I hope each of you had as great a holiday as we did.

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL

"If man's greatest need had been knowledge,
God would have sent us an educator.
If man's greatest need had been physical health
God would have sent us a doctor.
If man's greatest need had been money
God would have sent us an entrepreneur.
If man's greatest need had been excitement,
God would have sent us an entertainer.
But Man's greatest need was forgiveness,
so God sent us a savior."

Please excuse the Thanksgiving theme. I'll get a Christmas one on as soon as I can. We had a marvelous Thanksgiving out at the South Plains Co-Op this year. We had more room and the kids played Wii and we watched old movies..........by old, I mean when Lana was little. It was a marvelous day and way too much to eat.
We will be celebrating Christmas at our house again this year. We're a little crowded, but being a close family, we don't mind. We just have the usual Turkey and dressing fare and love it as much as we did on Thanksgiving. I'd prefer not to have gifts, but we always do. And it is ok as long as we remember that we are celebrating Jesus Christ's birthday. Let 's all remember to give praise and glory to the Lord for our blessings........blessings for which we are so undeserving. Don't forget our service men protecting our freedom. They will miss being with their families and will be sad for the kids. I pray for their safe return. My prayers go out to the families that have lost loved ones. This will be an especially had Christmas for all of them. There are three families that are on my heart.
My life is so good. My three year old grandaughter told me today I was old. I said "no I'm not." and she said..............."my momma said you are".

Being old is not bad...........it is being perceived as old that is bad. Until next time, love you all. Remember me as the "Hugging Honeyma"

Water, Water everywhere...........

What a day last Monday was. I went to Floydada with Lori to see Calor's basketball game. (we won 37-33). We got home around 9:00 PM. As a rule, I usually eat my three Reese's cookies and a glass of milk at 8:00 but tonight................9:00. I was all set to watch a new episode of my favorite CSI Miami and had my milk and cookies. When the commercial came on, I got up to take my glass to the kitchen and lo and behold when I got around Don's chair, I was faced with a .......FLOOD!!!!!!!!!. Linda had put a load of clothes in to wash and in the short time I had my cookies, the washer did not cut off and the water kept coming in. My kitchen mats and utility room mats were floating around, the carpet was sopping and me...........well, I didn't know what to do. I did have the wherewithall to turn off the washer. Linda came in and we started putting all the towels in the house down, foolishly thinking that they would soak up 2 inches of water in 3 rooms. We called Lori and she bro't the wet vac from the South Plains and we vacuumed, swept, wadded.............whew.....hard work.
My three year old grandaughter came in, stopped, looked at all the water and said"damn it". I promise I do not know where she heard that. Anyway we finally got the water off the linoleum and got fans for the carpet. They are still running today (Wednesday). The carpet is damp and smells bad, but sooner or later it will dry up. One good thing, tho, we had decided earlier to have our Thanksgiving dinner at the South Plains. Now, how nice will that be to not have to worry about keeping the kids out of the fans and off the wet floor. Isn't the Lord good! I wish everyone the best Thanksgiving ever and hope you are as blessed as my family.

Why?

Why is it that I can think of so many great things to post until I sit down at the computer!!!!! I don't get out a lot, but do love to go to kids' ballgames. Isn't it great that the Bobcats are in the playoffs. It's way too cold for me to attend, but we listen on the radio. I love it that the JV cheerleaders get to cheer at the playoff games. It looks so great to see all of them running in front of the football players, waving their pom poms. Tears always fill my eyes when they play the national anthem...........anywhere. Our band is so good this year. Of course we miss Conor playing, but, he's having a wonderful time at WTAM.

We are looking forward to Lacy's baby in March................my 5th great grand. Guess we will put off our spring break trip to Las Vegas this year until a later time. I had so much fun last year and need to go back and get the money that I left.

I did not vote for Obama, but will support him all the way. We must stick together as a nation. When I was growing up , so many years ago, there was never a bad word said or any fun made of the president. I believe that it should still be this way. Somehow the TV and computer age has changed all that.

I promise to have something more interesting next time. .... and perhaps some decoration of some sort.

you have lost nothing of value.
If you meet Jesus Christ and forget about Him
you have lost everything of value

Things I've learned

I have learned thru the years that you can learn more about life talking with an old-timer than anything you can read.(I regret that I didn't visit more with my grandfather or Don's grandmother)

I have learned that there comes a time in one's life that you sorta feel in the way. I know this is not true, but I know that people have that feeling.

I have learned that Children need space............they need dicipline with love, and they don't need everything that they want.

I have learned that friends sometimes do forsake you and betray you, but that you should forgive them anyway.

I have learned that Life is too short to get done all you want to do.

I have learned that a spotless house is not nearly as important as spending time with the ones you love.

I have learned that it is never to soon to be kind because you never know how soon it will be too late.

I have learned a lot of things the hard way and wish I could do some of them over.

I have learned that Life is wonderful and to be enjoyed.

I found this poem that fits me perfectly and I sorta stole it as my own:

Lord, Thou knowest that I am growing older.

Keep me from growing talkative and possessed with the idea that I must express myself on every subject.

Release me from the craving to straighten out everyone's affairs.

Keep me from the recital of endless details. Give me wings to get to the point.

Seal my lips when I am inclined t tell of my aches and pains. They are increasing with the years and my love to speak of them grows sweeter as times goes by.

Make me thoughtful but not NOSEY, helpful but not BOSSY

Teach me the glorious lesson that occasionally I MAY be wrong.

With my vast store of wisdom and experience, it does seem a pity not to use it all.

But Thou knowest, Lord, that I want a few friends in the end.
